Build a Partnership with PT SMM, Stowe Brang Village Government Holds Batik Fabric Making Training.

The Village Government of Stowe Brang, Utan District, Sumbawa Regency, together with the Village Consultative Body (BPD), has built a partnership with PT. SMM Jakarta. This initiative aims to develop a skilled and self-reliant community to support a micro-enterprise-based economy, both individually and in groups, through training in tailoring and hand-drawn batik using natural dyes. The training is directly facilitated by experts from PT. Solusi Masyarakat Mandiri (SMM).

The program was centralized at the Secretariat Hall of the BPD Stober Utan Village and lasted for seven days, involving 10 participants, including women. (07/07/2024)

Zulkarnaen, DA, S.IP, the Head of Stowe Brang Village, explained that PT. Solusi Masyarakat Mandiri, a shrimp farming company located in Panyengar Hamlet, Stowe Brang Village, Utan District, offers solutions and independent job opportunities to the local community. This initiative allows the people of Stowe Brang to gain practical skills and knowledge in hand-drawn batik techniques using natural dyes.

“PT. SMM has signed an MoU with the Stowe Brang Village Government for local community development and empowerment,” said the Village Head.

The Village Head added that the hand-drawn batik training activity brings significant positive value to the people of Stowe Brang Village. It is expected to continue, given the economic value of the results for the local community.

“The raw materials for producing natural dyes for hand-drawn batik are abundant in our surroundings, such as tamarind bark, mangrove, and ketapang bark. This is an excellent resource to develop in the future to support the local economy, and it is the first initiative of its kind in the Utan District,” explained the Village Head.
